The Mazda BT-50 is based on the Isuzu D-Max platform and 3.0-litre Diesel engine but Mazda is modifying all the stuff you can see at an increasing rate. In today’s episode of Chasing Cars, editor Tom Baker reviews the 2022 BT-50 SP, a new luxury trim that sits just under the range-topping BT-50 Thunder.

The BT-50 competes with the D-Max, Toyota HiLux, Volkswagen Amarok, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi Triton, GWM Ute and others.

It uses a 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo Diesel engine making 140kW of power (187 hp) with a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions.
