6 Projects Making Brisbane's Eastside Better
The Brisbane City Council is spending $3.1 billion to create more ways to play, work and relax in the suburbs.
Better Suburbs Initiative
The Better Suburbs Initiative has been established to investigate opportunities for renewal in suburbs that are outside the city's inner five kilometres. Creating better Brisbane suburbs will enhance quality of life within local communities through enhanced economic performance and infrastructure investment.
Village Precinct Projects is a public realm improvement program supporting Brisbane City Council’s commitment to creating a city of neighbourhoods. The primary purpose is to create liveable places with vibrant neighbourhood centres for the local community and visitors to enjoy.
Council will design and deliver public realm improvements, breathing new life into local shopping precincts with the aim of contributing to the commercial vitality of the precinct by creating:
a beautiful precinct - high-quality, attractive public spaces that are accessible, safe and comfortable to walk through; spaces that encourage the local community to meet, linger and enjoy
a precinct for people - streets that are inclusive and inviting places for everyone to shop, socialise and relax
a sense of place - reinforcing the local character and pride, and creating distinctive subtropical spaces for local residents, businesses and visitors to connect with and belong to.
1. Village Precinct Projects
Better paths, a safer pedestrian crossing and new artwork and seating will rejuvenate Martha Steet's local food and retail hub in Camp Hill. Coorparoo Junction Village is also being rejuvenated, including converting Tarlina Lane into a shared pedestrian and traffic zone.
2. Bulimba Memorial Bowls and Community Club
Recently completed accessibility upgrades, including car parking, ambulant toilets, access ramps and automatic doors help make getting around the club and greens easier.
3. The Common Park, Coorparoo
Grab your wheels and head to the new scooter track and pathways.
4. Newnham Wrecker Road upgrade
Works are underway to install new right-turn lanes, signalised pedestrian crossings and footpaths to improve safety.
5. Rochedale Road and Preistdale Road intersection upgrade
New traffic lights and dedicated turning lanes will make this popular stretch of road in Rochedale safer for all users.
6. Minnippi Golf Course
Brisbane's newest green- the only public golf course south of the river is set to open this year in Cannon Hill.
